Stewardship-Part two

kindness

She stood in front of me at the checkout with cash in her hand. I could tell by the look on her face she miscalculated the amount of groceries with the money she had. Embarrassed she asked the cashier to put back the bread, then the sugar, then the cottage cheese. I could already feel the compassion welling up inside of me. I knew I had to help her.

After wards while she was bagging her groceries it was my turn. I told the cashier I would pay for those items she had put back. He did then pushed them down her way telling the lady I bought them. She was stunned. I wanted to hide. I just didn’t want her to know what I did. But now I stood face to face with her also bagging my groceries.

“That was kind of you.” she said. “You are welcome” I answered. “That was extremely kind.” she responded. Then we chatted a while about how everyone in the world should help each other out, how much better our lives would be. Later at home I remembered this proverb.

“Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will reward them for what they have done.” pro. 19:17

Can you imagine lending to the Lord! Finally I can do something for Jesus! After all he has done so much for me. He gave me eternal life, washed away my sins, and gave me the Holy Spirit. I love this truth that I can lend to the Lord by simply being kind to the poor. Then the rest of that verse says he will reward you. The original meaning is that he will pay you back. So not only can you do something for Jesus but he will pay you back!

You have nothing to lose, so why not help others in need?

Stewardship-Part 1

What is stewardship? It is simply a management of something. The Bible tells us be good stewards of our time, talents, and finances. Since God gave us the time, talents, and finances we should honor him  by managing them well.

I would like to thank and honor those in our church who give tithes on a consistent bases. They are faithful stewards of the money God has given them. In obedience they give 10% (a tithe) back to God, because it’s his. In return, God promises these tithers (including me)  several wonderful things that can be found in Mal. 3:10-12.

“Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this, says the Lord Almighty, and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it. I will prevent pests from devouring your crops and the vines in your fields will not drop their fruit before it is ripe, says the Lord Almighty. Then all the nations will call you blessed, for yours will be a delightful land, says the Lord Almighty.”

What awesome and gracious promises from our heavenly Father, to those who honor him with their finances. In church, we prayer over our tithes and come into agreement with God’s word. What about you? Are you a good steward of the money God has given you?
