The Gift

20141218_111007I was once given a nutcracker as a gift. I was made of wood and painted green and gold with a tall hat. It would be the start of my nutcracker collection, which was growing a little each year. In the same way, our knowledge of the meaning of Christmas grows each year. At least that is my hope for each person.

When we sit around and hand out gifts on that sacred day, it is a time of showing our love for one another. Either by giving a toy, or giving clothes, or some other precious gift. Hugs are given, children are laughing, and everyone is happy. But the true meaning of Christmas is simply this, God giving us a gift. And that gift is Jesus. He wasn’t wrapped in shiny paper and tied with a bow. Rather he was given to us in the form of a human baby.

“The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel, which means God with us.” Mt. 1:23

You see as we show our love to each other on Christmas day, God showed his love for us in giving his one and only son, Jesus.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16

There is no greater gift than Jesus! No one can out give God! You can search for the most expensive car, or fanciest purse, or the best clothes. They still won’t be better than God’s gift to us. I can buy the tallest nutcracker and have the biggest collection but it still won’t be better than the gift of Jesus. So what makes the gift of Jesus so special? I have six words;

Jesus came, Jesus saved, Jesus rose!

In these six words tells all you need to know about God’s gift. Let’s go through them.

1. Jesus came. He came to earth as a human baby, born of a virgin.

2. Jesus saved. Years later during his ministry he saved the world from their sins by taking the punishment of sin on himself. The Bible says, The wages of sin is death. So Jesus paid that price for us!

3. Jesus rose. On the third day of his death God raised him up again! He is alive in heaven, where he sits at the right hand of God.

So are you willing to accept God’s gift of Jesus? Will you trust him to be Lord of your life? He is the best gift you will ever receive! Here is how to open that gift.

“If you confess with your mouth, Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead you will be saved.” Ro. 10:9

Merry Christmas,
